We All Have a Story to Tell...What's Yours?
Make a Resolution to Write
This November I took on one of my largest writing projects
yet...serving as guide, mentor, and instructor to 29 high school students participating in the November madness
of National Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo. Throughout the 18 days I heard and seen it all: "I don't know what to
write" (after day 3), "I love my novel," "What happens when you kill off your main character,"
as well as a student who hit 10,000 words in the first week, another who scrapped their project halfway through and raced
through a new one, and another student who ended up writing over 25,000 words, 3 times the goal that I gave them!
It was a very stressful, often frustrating, but satisfying project for all of us. It's fun to see what a writer will
do when you push them a bit.
Our muse in
this pursuit was author and Word's Worth instructor, Katrina Kittle, who spent a great deal of the fall marketing
her new book, the tween offering, Reasons to Be Happy. As a class we read my personal favorite, The Kindness
of Strangers, and invited her in for two days of advice-gathering and grilling to set us on our month-long writing
journey.
Luckily for us at Word's Worth Writing Connections Katrina is back to be our personal muse and
guide in our own writing journey. The
new year always brings a slew of new writers and writing projects to pursue and we've brought back two of the perfect classes,
The Craft of Fiction and Fiction Jumpstart, to help you live up to your resolution
to write. Click here for more information on these offerings.
